Every Thursday during the summer in my hometown, the Williston Downtowners Association hosts a free concert featuring local bands, food and drinks. It’s an amazing weekly event that bring the community together and I had the honor of designing their branding materials last year. This project was a dream come true for a brand designer like me who just wants to make bright, bold and funky designs. And the fact that we could incorporate some guitars and the color teal really made my day.
The goal for this brand project was to create a unique and summery overall look + feel that could be carried into all the print, social media and event signage for Summer Nights On Main. We put together a custom package for the Williston Downtowners that helped to cover all those bases and would establish consistency so that people knew right away when they were looking at a Summer Nights piece. Their package included all of these branded marketing materials:
- Logo design
- Event poster design
- Social media backgrounds
- Print ads
- Banners and signage for the concerts
- Custom frame
By designing all the marketing pieces at once, we were able to develop some unique brand elements that could be used consistently in all materials.
Logo + Poster Design:
We started with the logo and poster design at the same time to quickly define the tone and style of the event and branding. The first option featured some fun fonts and effects that gave it a certain street-art style. The poster featured a guitar silhouette with sun rays giving it a very summery feeling. The second option shows a super colorful design that exudes the feeling of summer with the shapes and color palette. A guitar is included right in the logo and the poster plays with texture for a grungy rock-and-roll design. Finally the third option takes a completely different and more standard “rock” representation with a photo as the base for the background.
The Williston Downtowners Association was really drawn to the bold, summery colors of the middle option but loved the circular logo design. We tweaked the logo to fit with the fun, fresh color scheme and after a few rounds of revisions landed on the final poster + logo which defined the whole brand look.
Once we had the look + feel established for the logo and poster design, it was easy to create all the other marketing materials with the same style. We created social media backgrounds, print ads, banners for the event and more. And even better, each design was created so that the date and band name could be easily updated so they could quickly be changed each week.
From the Client:
"We worked with Lindsey on our Association and Downtown logo so we not only wanted the same feel but she was such a joy to work with the first time that we knew she could capture what we wanted for Summer Nights on Main! Lindsey laid out every step which was so easy for us to follow and for us to know when she needed information from us.
From our initial Downtown Association logo to again working with Six Leaf Design on our Summer Nights on Main logo, poster and banners - we could not be more pleased! Lindsey is able to convey our ideas through design and initially presents three options so we get the chance to feel out each different look and then choose one to move forward with. Thank you, Six Leaf Design for another positive experience and we continue to look forward to our next project together!"
